Antagonized by critics, these are the kinds of things fans of MMA find themselves saying in trying to defend the sport. But are they true? And even if they are, do they make for persuasive arguments?

This is the first in a series of articles entitled “Myth-ed Martial Arts.” The goal of these pieces is to examine statements that are made about MMA and analyze their truth and consequences. Some of these statements are true, some are mere myths, but true or not, each carries with it profound implications for winning support, or at least tolerance, among the general public for MMA. These questions require a level of thought deeper than a simple true or false. When working with public opinion, the correct answer is not necessarily the right one.

Hardcore Championship Fighting

Dave Houshair, the former co-owner of the recently folded Hardcore Championship Fighting, has reportedly announced his quick promotional return to the world of mixed martial arts with a June 20th co-promotional fight card that will take place at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The news comes from The Fight Network’s Great Fight North column, which reports that the show will be a joint-effort between Houshair’s Raw Combat promotion and Legacy Fighting Championships.

A slew of notable veterans will be on the card. PRIDE Fighting Championships alumnus Travis Galbraith will take on former UFC light heavyweight Hector Ramirez in the night’s main event.

Former UFC middleweight title challenger David Loiseau will attempt to continue his road back from a string of bad losses when he takes on fellow HCF veteran Andrew Buckland. An LFC featherweight title bout between Len Tam and Chris Desaultes is also slated to take place.

On Saturday August 23rd Cage Combat Fighting Championships heads to Fresno with CCFC8 “Rumble in the Park” at the new Woodward Park Amphitheatre. 10 bouts will be featured that night; the main event will feature 6x UFC veteran ‘Mr. International’ Shonie Carter (41-17-7) vs. Tapout reality show star Matt Major (4-1). The co-main event will feature former Fresno State Wrestling standout Casey Olson (7-2) vs. Aaron Miller (5-3), Miller is currently on a 3 fight win streak and looks to make it 4 in a row.

Special Guest appearance and autograph signing session by Chuck ‘The Iceman’ Liddell, also on hand will be the world famous Tapout Crew.

Cage Combat Fighting Bantamweight champion Rolando Velasco (5-0) will defend his belt against Fresno fighter David ‘Kid Dynamite’ Espinosa (5-2). Velasco holds wins against previous unbeaten fighters Darren “BC” Uyenoyama and Shawn Klarcyk. UFC 87: Brock Lesnar Laughs At Heath Herring During Fight, Picture Of Victory Celebration

During the UFC 87 bout between Brock Lesnar and Heath "Texas Crazy Horse" Herring, there was a moment of laughter for the former WWE superstar.

In the following picture, you can see Lesnar mounted on Herring's back as he pounded Herring's head over and over with his insanely large fists. Although this move ocurred throughout most of the fight, there was an instant where Herring was able to get Lesnar off of his back. Herring immediately throws a right hook, but Lesnar reacted by ducking and then escaping the wild swing.

Once both fighters were up on their feet, you can see Lesnar pointing and laughing at Herring like a little kid. To some MMA fans, the moment of laughter was quite funny while other fans looked at it as a sense of disrespect and immaturity. Check out the pic and decide for yourself...
