WHAT is MIXED MARTIAL ARTS?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is an intense and evolving unarmed combat sport in which competitors use interdisciplinary forms of fighting that include jiu-jitsu, judo, karate, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and others to their strategic and tactical advantage in a supervised match. Scoring for mixed martial arts events in Nevada, New Jersey, California, and Florida is based on athletic-commission approved definitions and rules for striking ( blows with the hands, feet, knees, or elbows) and grappling (submission, choke holds, throws, or takedowns). No single discipline reigns.

Team Vortex

Hyper-Blend Martial Arts is a mixed martial arts "school" out of Memphis, TN. We train out of the Raleigh Springs Mall. We have a very unique style which is where hyper-blend comes from. Hyper-Blend is a combination of many different martial arts styles. We don't claim any particular style as our own. Our main objective is to counter against anything that we are faced with. We started our training out of a garage (yes, a two car garage) in June of 2006. We started with only three guys that we trained for free. OFFICIAL MMA RULES

The following describes some rules commonly found in MMA competition in most MMA organizations.
Ways to victory
Knock Out (KO): as soon as a fighter becomes unconscious due to strikes, his opponent is declared the winner (because MMA rules allow ground fighting, the fight is stopped to prevent further injury to the unconcious fighter.)
Submission: a fighter may admit defeat during a match by:
tapping three times on his opponent's body;
tapping three times on the mat or floor;
verbal announcement.
Technical Knockout (TKO)
Referee Stoppage: the referee may stop a match in progress if:
a fighter becomes dominant to the point where the opponent is unable to intelligently defend himself from attacks (this may occur as quickly as a few seconds);
a fighter appears to be unconscious from a grappling hold.
a fighter appears to have developed significant injuries (such as a broken bone) in the referee's view.
Doctor Stoppage: the referee will call for a time out if a fighter's ability to continue is in question as a result of apparent injuries (such as a large cut). The ring doctor will inspect the fighter and stop the match if the fighter is deemed unable to continue safely, rendering the opponent the winner. However, if the match is stopped as a result of an injury from illegal actions by the opponent, either a disqualification or no contest will be issued instead.
Corner stoppage: a fighter's cornermen may announce defeat on the fighter's behalf by throwing in the towel during the match in progress or between rounds.
Decision: if the match goes the distance, then the outcome of the bout is determined by three judges. The judging critera are organization-specific.
Forfeit: a fighter or his representative may forfeit a match prior to the beginning of the match, thereby losing the match.
Disqualification: a "warning" will be given when a fighter commits a foul or illegal action or does not follow the referee's instruction. Three warnings will result in a disqualification. Moreover, if a fighter is injured and unable to continue due to a deliberate illegal technique from his opponent, the opponent will be disqualified.
No Contest: in the event that both fighters commit a violation of the rules, or a fighter is unable to continue due to an injury from an accidental illegal technique, the match will be declared a "No Contest".
Weight categories
Although each organization divides its fighters into weight classes, the details are organization-specific.
Fouls
No head-butting, eye gouging, hair pulling, biting or fish hooking (pulling at the cheek with a finger).
No attacking the groin
No strikes to the back of the head, spinal area and kidneys.
No strikes to, or grabs of the trachea
No small joint manipulation (control of four or more fingers/toes is necessary).
No intentionally throwing your opponent out of the ring.
No running out of the ring.
No purposely holding the ring ropes or octagon fence.

He lost earlier to Amar Sadollah in an armbar at the finals CB again lost to Sadollah to the same basic move he only taped out once but it enought for the ref to end the match and award the victory to Amar Sadollah.

CELEBRITY UFC IN THE WORKS: ROGAN VS SNIPES

Celebrity boxing did monster rating numbers a few years ago. It now appears a proposed Joe Rogan vs Wesley Snipes fight could do the same.

There was buzz of this rumor on several forums today and MMAWeekly.com has had this confirmed in the past hour. MMAWeekly Radio Host Frank Trigg talked briefly with Joe Rogan this afternoon to see if there was any truth to the rumor.

"It's 100% true..." Rogan told Trigg via the telephone. "I want the fight and now it's up to Wesley Snipes to accept." Snipes is a black belt in tae kwon doe and has trained in martial arts for years studying Karate, Kung Fu and Capoeira.

Rogan was a four-time state Tae kwon do champion before pursuing a career in show business. Rogan earned a black belt at 15 after just two years of training. At 19 he won the US Open Tae Kwon Do Championship, and later as a lightweight champion went on to beat both the middle and heavyweight title-holders to obtain the Grand Championship.Rogan also trains regularly with submission specialist Eddie Bravo.

Guida steps up as injury sidelines Monson

Jason Guida has managed to cram an entire mixed martial arts career into less than five years.

Known as a hard-nosed competitor who never turned down a fight, Guida was a natural replacement when a broken hand forced Jeff Monson to withdraw from the main event of this Saturday's Adrenaline MMA show near Chicago.

"Say what you will about Guida, but when you need somebody to jump in on short notice and fight anybody... he's the guy," said Adrenaline CEO Monte Cox. "I mean, we all know he's crazy... but he also comes to fight and you never have to worry about him laying down for anybody. I know this will be a very good main event."

A native of the Chicago area, Guida's fighting resume includes almost 40 professional fights all over the world... Russia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Poland. The guy simply loves the competition. And, the tougher the better.

On Saturday at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill., Guida (23-16) will face Chicago police officer Mike Russow (9-1) in the main event of the 14-fight show. The main fights will be televised live on HDNet, beginning at 9:30 p.m. (EST).

"I feel bad for Monson because he really wanted this fight," Cox said. "But his broken hand wasn't healing quick enough and you can't fight at this level with that kind of injury. I'm just fortunate that we had such a quality replacement right in Chicago."

Guida is the older brother of UFC lightweight standout Clay Guida, who will be in the corner.

All "Illegal Cage Fighting" Charges Dropped Against Din Thomas

UFC fighter Din Thomas, who faced up to five years in prison after being arrested and accused of running an illegal cage fighting event, has had all charges against him dropped.

Thomas learned of the news earlier today.

On Oct. 30, the 31-year-old veteran fighter and trainer was arrested for an event he held at his training center, American Top Team Port St. Lucie, on Oct. 19. The event, which included four matches and eight of his students, was attended by at least six police officers.

Thomas was charged with a felony count of running prohibited competitions. One prosecutor explained that Thomas was promoting an activity not sanctioned by the Florida Boxing Commission, which oversees all professional boxing and MMA events in the state.

"Three (police) cars rolled up, and two of them came up on bikes," Thomas told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) during a media conference call. "They stuck around for the duration of the event."
