Strikeforce Fedor vs. Henderson Bleacher Report MMA Staff Predictions

This artical was written by John Heinis(Featured Columnist) on July 28, 2011

On Saturday, July 30, fans finally get a chance to see a super fight that many thought had no real feasibility at this point.

Reigning Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson will take on Fedor Emelianenko in the evenings main event.

Will this be a career renaissance for Fedor, or will it solidify that it is finallytime for "The Last Emperor" to hang it up after a decade of dominance?

Also on the card, Paul Daley takes on Tyron Woodley, in a fight that will likely determine who competes for the vacant Strikeforce Welterweight title before the end of the year

UFC star Tito Ortiz bangs up his Rolls-Royce

This artical was written by By Chris Woodyard, USA

Any of us would be upset about being involved in a fender-bender. But if you mixed martial arts star Tito Ortiz and your driving a pristine snow-white Rolls-Royce Phantom, these are sad, sad days.Ortiz was involved in a three-car smash-up and his Rolls took its hit where it hurts the most -- in its famous chrome grille, TMZ.com reports. Pictures on the site show an awfully banged-up Rolls, but Ortiz and others involved in the accident in Costa Mesa, Calif., not far from tony Newport Beach, only appear to have bruised wallets.

Frank Shamrock Challenges Dana White to a Fight, Mike Swick Caught in the Middle

This artical was written by Written by Tom Ngo
While most of the mixed martial arts world thought “Strikeforce Challengers 17″ was the only fight going on Friday night, Frank Shamrock tried to steal the Twitter spotlight by challenging UFC president Dana White to a scrap on the social media network.

What started off as a simple fanboy question quickly turned into a heated exchange between the MMA icons, and somehow UFC welterweight Mike Swick got lodged in the middle of their spat.

Here’s the hot and heavy action from last night:

....UFC brings Ortiz on top in Philadelphia return

This artical was written by DAN GELSTON - AP Sports Writer | AP – Thu, Jul 21, 2011

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — UFC's debut in Philadelphia included a $3.55 million gate, a stacked card, and an arena loaded with delirious fans demanding the promotion return to their city before the first bout started.

Two years later, Philly is set for a sequel.

In a city once home to the Broad Street Bullies, a new breed of brawlers were an instant smash at the Wells Fargo Center. Not even the arena's normal tenants, the 76ers and Flyers, have rocked 20,000 fans in recent years like UFC shook them in Pennsylvania's first major mixed martial arts card.

Why not try it again?

Almost out of a job two months ago, Tito Ortiz's convincing victory on the last pay-per-view card not only proved he wasn't finished, it landed him in the main event of UFC 133 on Aug. 6 at the Wells Fargo Center. Ortiz fights Rashad Evans, and Vitor Belfort takes on Yoshihiro Akiyama in the other showcase bout. Philadelphia last hosted a card on Aug. 8, 2009.

It won't be the last time — and the wait might not stretch two years — that UFC marks Philadelphia on its calendar.

"Philly's going to be one of our regular stops," UFC president Dana White said Wednesday.

White called Philadelphia a destination city where fans want to visit and has the deep fighting roots that makes it appealing to its stars.

"The venues obviously love us and want to get us back," White said. "We had a great experience in Philly. It made all the sense in the world."

Like one of their heavyweights, UFC keeps getting bigger, badder, bolder.

Like 1.5 million. That's the number of Twitter followers for White that recently landed him on Sports Illustrated's, "The Twitter 100" list of essential sports figures.

Like 155 and 22. White boasted those are the number of countries UFC calls home and languages the sport is broadcast in. Toronto, Brazil, England, and Japan were all outside-U.S. locales where UFC has recently staged an event or plans to run one in the future.

White, and brothers Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta, have clearly transformed UFC into a multi-billion dollar industry. Long gone are the formative years when spin doctors were needed to defend a sport that had no weight classes, gloves or rounds.

"We believe this thing can be a global sport, meaning everybody's playing by the same rules over the world," White said. "There's still a lot of work to do to get things done."

Even with UFC sanctioned in every state with an athletic commission except New York, White wants more. UFC's TV rights are up for grabs and a new deal with Spike — or maybe HBO? — could surely keep the coffers filled for years. White said negotiations have been "rough" and he's putting out feelers to any interested station. UFC started airing preliminary fights on Facebook — just one example of how far ahead of the curve the promotion has been with social media.

He'll go any place to find new ideas, even recently making his first stop to WWE headquarters to chat with the sports entertainment empire's chairman, Vince McMahon. White looks up to McMahon, emulates his business model and called him "the guy that basically created the pay-per-view market."

Just don't expect White, who looks like he could go toe-to-toe in the Octagon on short notice, to shed tears like McMahon did this week on "Raw."

White has no plans to submit to the grueling pace of working as the face of UFC. Always on the go, White feasted on cheesesteaks and energy drinks to fuel him through a two-day tour stuffed with interviews with almost every major local radio station and newspaper.

"I'll keep going until I can't go any more," White said. "I've been running at this pace for 10 years."

White touched on a wide range of subjects during a 60-minute interview with The Associated Press:

— On former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar's digestive disorder: "He's doing well. We hope for him to be back in January."

MMA: The 13 Dumbest Moments in MMA History

This artical is By Matthew Saccaro (Featured Columnist) on July 19, 2011 from the Bleacher Reports website

Throughout the history of any sport there are legendary moments embedded that will burn brightly in the memories of fans.

Despite MMA's short history there are plenty of these moments...but for each one of these there is one that isn't so glorious or legendary and is kind of absurd or even outright stupid.

What are some of these moments? What are some of these moments? Read and find out but keep in mind that it is difficult to quantify absurdity/stupidity/dumbness so the slides aren't ranked; what is only kind of dumb to one person may seem really idiotic to another (or not stupid at all).

This looks really funney for more info or to see the slide show go to the bleacher repots website by clicking the title above......

UFC's Hottest Ring Girl BACK?!?

This artical was written Written by Tom Ngo July 19th, 2011
Don’t call it a comeback, she’s been here for seven months. After countless clues that signaled the end of Brittney Palmer’s card toting days around the Octagon, which included the removal of her ring girl profile from UFC.com, company president Dana White heard your cries and notified the Twitter universe that the WEC’s former queen bee is still with the company.

For the last several days, it had been heavily rumored UFC 132 on July 4th weekend was the final time Palmer would circle MMA’s most prestigious cage. Although no official announcements were made from either party, Palmer issued numerous cryptic tweets that lead most fans to believe she had been let go.

She posted her most notable message on July 16th by stating, “Thanks for all the good luck wishes! I’m figuring it all out. Life is full of surprises. This will definitely keep me grounded. Over and out.”

Although countless fans sent Palmer messages inquiring about her employment status, Palmer never specifically confirmed or denied she was no longer with the UFC. When word broke this morning she was removed from the company’s official website, Palmer wrote, “Here is an idea let’s start talking about my calendar I’m shooting today! Sooo excited.”

Shortly after that, White was bombarded with messages from hormone-driven teenagers that were dumbfounded by the reports their favorite sign holder was bounced. Moments after that, White claimed she was never released and Palmer’s ring girl profile miraculously reappeared on UFC.com.

Palmer made her big league debut at “UFC 125: Resolution” this past New Year’s Day. It appears her run of notifying the fans of which round is forthcoming will march on.

Manager Lex McMahon: Fighter's Union 'Needed' in MMA

There has never been a fighter's union in boxing, which leads many to believe one will never be formed in MMA.

The idea of a fighter's union in MMA has been talked about for years, however, it has always remained just that: an idea.

MMA manager Lex McMahon, president of Alchemist Management, said on Wednesday's episode of The MMA Hour that he was in favor of seeing fighter's union in MMA.

"I think it's needed," McMahon said. "I think that it's going to take further growth in the industry. I think that you're going to have to have a little bit more of a level playing field between the fighters, the management groups and the promotions before you are able to be in a position where you can really have enough strength from the fighter's side to be able to come together in a union. But it's an important issue."

UFC LOCK OUT!

I think this would be one of the main reasons why The UFC organization does not want the fighters to have there own union. The NFL players has there own union and like it been on the internet TV and radio than the players and NFL are going to lock out if a deal is not made. For me they make more money then I will ever see in a life time and they want more.

I think a fighter should have some benifits like Halth insurence,Some retirement plan and protection from un senceible fireings. Kimbo Slice and Chuck Liddell should have never left the sport.

Well this is just my opinion and my thoughts the Culinary Union is leaving a bad taste in Dana,s Whites mouth preventing him to host events in New York.He can have live shows in Japan but not in his own back yard. you want to learn more you can go to MMA Fighting Website by clicking the title above....

UFC gets bailout from Ortiz; showdown vs. Evans set for UFC 133

This artical was writtten
By Dave Deibert, Postmedia News July 14, 2011

Forrest Griffin won a split decision over Tito Ortiz in the main event of UFC 106 at Mandalay Bay in Las VegasPhotograph by: Jon Kopaloff, Getty ImagesIn a span of two weeks, Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Tito Ortiz has gone from near-retirement to a familiar spot in the main event of a pay-per-view.

After Phil Davis withdrew this week from his headlining bout on Aug. 6 versus Rashad Evans at UFC 133, Ortiz — who initially declined the spot on Tuesday — did a 180-degree turn on Wednesday. As a result, former light-heavyweight champions Evans and Ortiz will square off with three weeks notice.

“I’m an average man with a monster heart,” Ortiz wrote on his Twitter account.

“UFC asked me for my help and I’m here for them. Just want to show my true character by stepping up.”

UFC president Dana White said he called Ortiz first after receiving word last week that Davis’s status was in question. According to White, Ortiz said personal matters were preventing him from accepting the match, at which point White called another former light-heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida.

Machida, according to White, first said he would meet Evans. But in a later conversation, White was told Machida wanted a paycheque similar to reigning middleweight champion Anderson Silva — arguably the greatest fighter in UFC history.

Looking for excitement and intrigue?

This artical was written on June 27, 2011 By Luke Rutz from the State fo the Sport Website. The weekend started with Nate Marquardt mysteriously receiving his walking papers from the UFC. What started as his highly anticipated Welterweight debut turned into his dismissal from the company, and likely any chance at making a real impact in the sport. He apparently failed some pre-fight medical tests, and whatever the result of those exams they appear to have been drastic enough to warrant the severe punishment he has received. Pennsylvania laws are very strict on the release of such information, so only Marquardt will be able to tell us. This came from a Dana White who still has Chael Sonnen on his roster, and we all know what sort of trouble he has been in since nearly making history against Anderson Silva. I couldn’t help but feel completely horrible, as even though I don’t know Nate personally I do feel some connection as I have trained with people he has trained with. He is a Colorado boy, and I love to stand proud next to this type. However, since Zuffa also owns Strikeforce, we won’t see Marquardt in any major promotion any time soon. Zuffa is the parent company of both the UFC and Strikeforce, so Marquardt may be lucky just to stay alive in the sport. We can only hope Marquardt will clear the air, and in time his name. According to information I have received, this will come on Tuesday.

If you don’t think that a losing one half of the main event was enough controversy, then the prelims should have delivered enough for you. Charles Oliveira knows this all too well. His fight with Nik Lentz started out well, and he looked as though he was on the way to a clean victory. However, as both fighters were returning to their feet after a scramble, Oliveira landed an illegal knee square to the face of Lentz, who clearly had a knee on the mat. This blow went unseen to the official, and the fight continued. It clearly affected Lentz, who we unable to put up any solid defense after this shot, and quickly succumbed to a rear naked choke. I can’t really blame Oliveira, as I’m sure he believed Lentz was off his knees, so this is another very unfortunate situation. Oliveira looked to be in control of the fight up until that point, and I’m sure would’ve dominated after. If the official would have stopped the fight as he should’ve, Lentz most likely would’ve recovered and continued. The worst Oliveira would’ve probably suffered is a lost point, however he could lose a victory depending on the result of the review to be completed by the Commission.

After a few exciting finishes, and a couple good fights involving fighters that were fighting for their UFC lives that normally would earn space in an article such as this, it came to the fight that had been affected by the disappearance of Marquardt. Charlie Brenneman was originally slated to fight TJ Grant, however Grant became ill and could not compete. After going a few days while believing he was off the card, suddenly opportunity came knocking when Marquardt was out. Rick Story was a Welterweight on the rise, with an impressive win streak that included the likes of Thiago Alves. However, on only 24 hours notice, Brenneman came in and abused Story for three rounds to pull off what was probably the upset of the night. Normally, this would be enough excitement to finish the night, however the new main event was yet to come.

UFC 133 Fight Card: The 7 Fighters with the Most to Lose

Although UFC 133 does not feature a title fight, the matches are intriguing and the fight card as a whole promises to start August off with a bang.

As with any UFC event, dreams will be made or crushed and, as always, the night's fighters have much to lose with a loss.

However, there is a group of fighters that have more than just pride to lose. These men, if not victorious, may lose the most important thing a fighter has: employment.

Who are the seven fighters who are at risk for losing their job with a loss? Read and find out!

The UFC and Steriods

This artical was Published by SteroidSources.com under UFC and Steroids

We all know that UFC fighter Shane Carwin was implicated in a steroid ring. This happened when he was named as one of the clients of a compounding pharmacy involved in illegal prescriptions of anabolic steroids. Though Carwin has never been tested positive for steroids, MMA fans are speculating that the heavyweight fighter might still be using the said performance enhancing drug. His recent fight in Vancouver Canada last June is his chance to prove that he is not pumped up with steroids. However, anti-doping officials decided not to subject him to steroid testing.

The Reason

The Vancouver Athletic Commission (VAC) said in a statement that Carwin was exempted because of his medical condition after the fight. Carwin lost to Junior Dos Santos. He suffered multiple facial lacerations and a nasal fracture which requires immediate medical attention. Though Carwin still insists to be tested, the VAC opted to exempt him. “Despite Mr. Carwin’s willingness to complete the sample collection process, the VAC unilaterally exercised its discretion to rescind its selection of Mr. Carwin for anti-doping testing shortly following his bout at the event,” VAC told the media. The commission’s unilateral decision was based on fairness and fighter safety.

UFC Personal Trainer – review

If generic "bums'n'tums" DVDs don't provide sufficient motivation, UFC Personal Trainer may have the answer. Mixed martial artists achieve peak physical condition by training in several fighting styles which require endurance, strength and conditioning – attributes that are equally beneficial in fitness terms to gamers not actually looking for a rumble.

Buy it from
XBox 360UFC Personal Trainer - Kinect CompatibleTHQ
While previous UFC games focused training and fighting on arcade-style simulations, THQ has now chosen to hone and tone here in the real world with gruelling, full-body MMA workouts and, while the testosterone-fuelled UFC theme may be a turn off for some, Personal Trainer is essentially just an exercise programme using Xbox Kinect or PlayStation Move motion-capture.

Justin Bieber VS Dana White

This would be en interesting match up but I think Justin needs to be in training for at least 6 months before he even attempts to step in the UFC Cage. You know what would be even more of a surprise if Justin Bieber wins the match up.What spark me to write about this is that the bleacher reports website has an artical about Biebers traffic crashing Danas Twitter feed I thought it was a Hoot heres a little bit from the artical from Bleacher reports...

Justin Bieber knocked out Ultimate Fighting Championship head Dana White's Twitter feed while fighter Dominick Cruz was taking down Urijah Faber in front of a star-studded crowd at UFC 132 in Las Vegas on the weekend, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

When Bieber, who was in the house at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, sent out a series of tweets that he was "chillin'" with White, the UFC kingpin's feed got so much traffic from Bieber's fans that his BlackBerry crashed and his account went silent for the rest of Saturday night.

Justin Bieber is a You Tube sensation and congrads to him on that but for me I dont get it but give him credit for being nearly as big as the UFC.

The losing streak continues for Strikeforce heavyweight Brett Rogers. Less than two weeks after being choked out by Josh Barnett at “Overeem vs. Werdum”, the Grim was arrested yesterday for allegedly beating the crap out of his wife in front of their daughter. MyFoxTwinCities.com (via CagePotato reader Jerry T.) has the report…

DAKOTA COUNTY, Minn. – Major-league Mixed Martial Artist and Apple Valley, Minn. resident Brett Rogers was arrested and jailed in connection with assaulting his wife Wednesday in their south metro home. She was reportedly strangled, punched repeatedly in the head and face and lost a tooth in the struggle.

Brett Charles Rogers, 30, has been charged with assault in the third degree, domestic assault by strangulation and pattern of stalking conduct — all felonies — in Dakota County. He was also charged with endangerment of a child, a gross misdameanor.

His wife blacked out from being choked, suffered a golf ball sized wound on her face among smaller wounds. The couple’s daughter had tried to intervene after she saw Rogers strike her mother.

Rogers admits he had been drinking before an argument broke out with he and his wife. He claims she punched him and he returned force.

The local fighter made his first court appearance Thursday. Bail was set at $100,00 with conditions. He is again expected in court Friday at 11 a.m.
