Mixed martial arts raises money for military charity

On Jan. 26, Operation Octagon, a coalition of mixed martial arts cage fighters, will raise money for the Travis Manion Fund, a charity that supports military families who have lost loved ones in their service to their country.
The brother and sister team of Art Sylmar, former Air Force and currently master police officer with the Vienna Police Department, and Maj. Lynn Sylmar, of the judge advocate general’s office at Fort Meade, Md., are spearheading the event and have incorporated contenders from the Army and Marine Corps.

‘‘We just need a fighter from the Air Force and Navy and we'll be great,” said Art Sylmar in his hopes to round out the mix of the armed forces team. Lynn Sylmar adds that if fighters from the Air Force and Navy are interested, they are welcome to contact Operation Octagon before Jan. 10.

‘‘If (the Air Force and Navy) produced a fighter to fight in the event, we’d get them somebody to fight,” she said.

‘‘We’re both big fans of mixed martial arts fighting,” said Art Sylmar of his and his sister’s shared passion for the sport. ‘‘We got together and thought of a fund-raiser to raise money for a good cause.”

Silva they say pound for pound is the best of the world. Well he proved it by taking out Irvin in less then 30 seconds. Irvin went for a side kick to the face but Silva block it and connected with a punch to the chin knocking Irvin to the ground,Silva took advanage was on top hitting him until the ref stopped the fight.

I believe that Silva is unstoppable!!

In Brazilian jujutsu, The Kimura lock is one of the most important submission methods. This move is found in other fighting styles and maybe referred to as a hammerlock, a chicken wing, or ude-garami. The Kimura lock was named after Masahiko Kimura, who was one of the most well-known and respected Judo athletes of all time. In 1952, while in Brazil, he fought a famous match against non other than Helio Gracie, the founder of Brazilian jujutsu. The famous match lasted 13 minutes, which surprised Kimura because Helio Gracie was much smaller than him. His winning move was an arm lock that ended the match abruptly. Almost 50 years after that notorious match in Brazilian jujutsu history, the arm lock that defeated Helio Gracie was named the "Kimura Lock" to pay homage the Kimura's exceptional abilities. The Kimura lock is a very versatile move which can be applied from close guard, open guard, north-south position, and from the mount, but can additionally work from the side mount, half guard, half mount, turtle, standing, and even from the back.

These “punks” apparently messed with the wrong guy. After a verbal confrontation, the man in the orange shirt shirt, now referred to as, “The Russian Badass”, feels threatened by these “punks” and delivers a one, two, knockout blow. After knocking out two men, he calmly walks down the sidewalk, gets what looks to be a handshake from a pedestrian and carries on with this day… what a bad ass!
