SOMETHING FROM YAHOO!
Football legend's daring first fight A buffed Herschel Walker makes his long-awaited MMA debut against a novice 21 years his junior.
SUNRISE, Fla. – Herschel Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner, won his professional mixed martial arts debut on Saturday at the tender age of 47, but he proved one thing: He’s a better football player than a fighter.
The one-time Dallas Cowboys star stopped a totally ineffective Greg Nagy at 2:17 of the third round on Saturday at the BankAtlantic Center on a Showtime-televised Strikeforce card.
Walker took Nagy down in each of the three rounds and tried to punish Nagy on the ground. He landed a few punches and seemed as if he were going to go for a submission at several points, but he was unable to do anything dramatic.

House of Pain
Mixed Martial Arts,The History....
Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions and non-traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground. Such competitions allow martial artists of different backgrounds to compete.
The roots of mixed martial arts can be traced back to various mixed style contests that took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s. Modern MMA competition emerged in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, although professional MMA events had been held in Japan by Shooto starting back in 1989. Originally organized with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations, competitors were pitted against one another with minimal rules for safety.[1] Later promoters adopted many additional rules aimed at increasing safety for competitors and to promote mainstream acceptance of the sport.[2]
The name mixed martial arts was coined by one of the developers of these rules, Jeff Blatnick; a former Greco-Roman wrestler, Olympic gold medalist and UFC commentator. [3] Following these changes, the sport has seen increased popularity with pay per view reach rivaling boxing and professional wrestling. This artical was written by Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia to find out more go to Wikipedia the free encyclopedia website by clicking the title above......

Here is yet another website that has news on UFC,MMA,WEC and more. Henderson defended a double-leg takedown in the third round by applying an arm-in guillotine choke to force a quick tap out at two minutes and 41 seconds.
"As soon as I couldn't get my hands under there [to defend]," Varner said. "I knew I was done."
It was a tough loss for Varner, who returning after a year-long absence, was winning the fight until he was caught in the choke. Varner, a former UFC lightweight, was the stronger fighter and the aggressor against the interim champ.
"I came to fight, Ben was the better man," Varner said. "Caught me in the guillotine. He had a strong guillotine. I wanted to box, he wanted to kick. S--t happens."

Frank Gomez forced out of WEC 46; Wagnney Fabiano waits on new opponent
This artical was brought to you by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Dec 29, 2009 at 7:15 pm ET
Greg Jackson's MMA-trained bantamweight Frank Gomez (8-1 MMA, 2-1 WEC) has suffered an undisclosed injury in training and has been forced to withdraw from a planned bout at WEC 46 bout with Wagnney Fabiano (12-2 MMA, 2-1 WEC).
News of the injury was first reported by "The MMA Show" with Mauro Ranallo, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has since confirmed the change with sources close to the promotion.
Fabiano is expected to remain on the card, though a replacement opponent has not yet been secured.
Featuring a lightweight title unification match between dual champs Jamie Varner and Benson Henderson, WEC 46 takes place Jan. 10 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif. The main card airs live on Versus.
After suffering a submission loss to Scott Jorgensen in his WEC debut – the lone loss of his nine-fight professional career – Gomez was seeking to build on a two-fight win streak. Gomez earned a unanimous-decision win over Seth Dikun at November's WEC 44 event, as well as a submission win over Noah Thomas at June's "WEC 41: Brown vs. Faber II."
Six of Gomez's eight career wins have come by stoppage. The three-time WEC veteran relies on a strong wrestling base built over a lifetime of competing in the sport that includes a brief stint at San Francisco State University, a Division II program.

This event will feature FCF Champions Joey Gorzcynski and Ryan McClain, and 5 time UFC and MFC veteran David Heath and MFC veteran Aron “The Poster Boy” Lofton.
Main Event: 170lb FCF Title fight – Joey “The Takedown Wizard” Gorczynski vs. Chad “The Boss” Leonhardt
Joey is a three time state wrestling champion from Oologah, OK and has an mma record of 14-7 and is the current FCF 170lb Champion.. Joey has fought for many other organizations such as Canada’s largest MMA organization Maximum Fighting Championships, the ESPN Deportes Bellator series and the International Fighting Organization in Las Vegas. Joey has won the FCF title not once but twice, giving it up at one point to fight at middleweight and claim that title before dropping back down to welterweight to reclaim his belt.
Chad is originally from Lawton Ok, but now living in Shreveport LA and training with UFC fighter Tim Credeur, heholds a professional mma record of 6-1 and an amateur record of 5-2. Chad has fought for the Cage Kings and Ring Rulers organizations in Louisiana and had a very impressive knockout win in last season’s ESPN Deportes Bellator series. 4 of Chad’s 6 wins come by KO or TKO, but Chad is also a talented wrestler himself, making this a very exciting main event for Tulsa fight fans.
Co Main event:
Ryan McClain vs. Karl Knothe
Ryan is the current 205lb FCF Champion. The Bixby native trains out of Absolute Combat Alliance in Tulsa. He holds a professional record of 10-3. Ryan is a submission specialist with 9 of his 10 wins coming by submission is the 1st round, but Ryan’s skill doesn’t end with his submission ability, he is a truly well rounded mma fighter with knockout power and wrestling skills. Ryan is destined for greatness and looking to continue his winning streak.
Karl comes all the way from Minneapolis Minnesota, he trains out of the Ambition Training Academy and holds a professional record of 15-5 and is 2-0 as an amatuer. Karl has rarely gone the distance in his 22 fight career, he won his last 9 fights in the first round, most by submission and some by TKO. Ryan McClain has his work cut out for him in this match up, both fighters bring a strong submission game and the ability to end a fight. This has the makings of a human chess match or all out war! Someone’s win streak will be coming to an end January 16th.
Dave Heath vs. Isaiah Larson
Dave is the former 205lb FCF champion, but gave up his title in July 2006 after a win over another up and coming fighter Sean Salmon landed him a contract with the UFC. Dave has an mma record of 13-6 including fights on UFC 62, 70, 74 and 81 as well as Ultimate Fight Night 7. Dave also trains at Tulsa’s Absolute Combat Alliance. Always willing to stand and bang it out with his competition, Heath has incredibly quick hands for a light heavyweight and is well versed in wrestling and submissions making him a tough opponent for any fighter in his division.
