Pride Fighting Championships History
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to: navigation, search
Pride Fighting Championships (PRIDE or Pride FC for short) was the biggest mixed martial arts (MMA) organization in the world, based in Japan. Its inaugural event was held at the Tokyo Dome on October 11, 1997. Pride has held more than sixty mixed martial arts events. As one of the most popular MMA organizations in the world during its ten years of operation, Pride broadcast to about 40 countries worldwide.[1] Pride also held the largest live MMA event audience record of over 70,000 people at the Pride and K-1 co-production, Shockwave/Dynamite, held in August 2002,[2] as well as the audience record of over 67,450 people at the Pride Final Conflict 2003.
In March 2007, Dream Stage Entertainment sold Pride to Lorenzo Fertitta and Frank Fertitta III, co-owners of Zuffa, which owns the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). While remaining legally separate entities with separate managements, the two promotions were set to cooperate in a manner akin to the AFL-NFL merger. However, such an arrangement did not materialize, and in October 2007, Pride Worldwide's Japanese staff was laid off, marking the end of the organization as an active fight promoter. As a result many of the Pride staff left to form a new organization alongside K-1 parent company Fighting and Entertainment Group. This new organization, founded in February 2008, is named Dream.

I remember the old Days of Ultimate Fighting!!
It was when Martial Arts was less Mixxed and the combatents was more Mixxed. The only division you have are strickers peoples punch and kick and graphlers those who like to wrestle. What I ment by this statement is you would have 300LB Wrestlor go up agenst a 175lb Kung fu fighter or someone from the streets battle a Karate expert.Old School MMA was if you think that you were the best S.O.B on the planet there was an organization where you show your skillz and use whatever you know to dominate your opponent and get the prize.
Today you have every MMA fighter who have basically the same skills they can fight stand up or go on the ground and your opponent no longer can have a 100 weight advantage over you welcom to 2011.I not saying anything bad in the MMA today I know that new rules had to be inforces to protect the fighters. And they now have weight classes to give all fighters a fair chance.Lets us not forget to please our congressmen so they will allow the sport of MMA in there state
Im just thinking out loud.I is amazing how much the UFC had change over the years from its early beginings I just miss the old days I guess

Anderson Silve vs George St Pierre. THE FIGHTS OF ALL FIGHTS!!
If you saw that last GSP fight with Hardy, it was what I say "really boring." Then I started watching UFC Unleashed and it was the best of Matt Hughes. It was all wrestling and ground game similar to what GSP is doing these days. I mean seriously, a decision over Hardy? You can tell GSP was kinda scared and played it safe. I mean he really played it safe with take downs and just muscle-ing Hardy around. Hardly anything spectacular of a grand champion like Anderson Silva or even BJ Penn (in the right weight class, of course).
If GSP was such a great champion, he'd fight Anderson Silva. I mean this would be the Pacquiao Mayweather of the UFC. And guess what? Dana White owns both of these fighters. This would be bigger than Liddell and Ortiz back in the day for several reasons. MMA has gone so mainstream that Silva and GSP are more known now than ever. This would be very healthy for the sport, at least in my opinion. The new talent can't carry the marketing power like these guys can and paying $50 for a PPV is starting to get tight when you're watching mediocre fights with no namers. I mean, these no namers are getting like $1500 to $40,000 per fight which is hardly enough to cover their medical bills.
We need an MMA resurrection of a great fight and George St. Pierre vs. Anderson Silva is that fight.

Dana White wants to merge the UFC and WEC together
The UFC is bigger then ever adding the lighter weight classes in the WEC.The president of the UFC Dana White said in the interview it was now time for this merger to take place. Will you ever see a major heavey weight class like 300lbs and up this will be interesting question to answer in the future for more info on the interview go to MMABAY website by clicking the title above...
A look at future free agents the UFC should consider signing
In 2010, the Ultimate Fighting Championship acquired several quality free agents to further bulk up their super-stacked roster. In addition to signing prospects like Charles Oliveira and Edson Barboza, the UFC managed to bring already established stars like Takanori Gomi and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto into the organization.
Plus, due to the WEC merger that occurred at the end of the year the UFC now has two new weight classes and enough lightweight fighters to invade a third world country with. As we enter the year 2011, let’s take a look at a couple of fighters that the UFC should look to negotiate with.
Fighters currently under contract with Strikeforce and Bellator will not be mentioned unless we believe they will get out of their contracts this year and jump ship to the UFC. Unfortunately, Fedor Emelianenko and Alistair Overeem are not likely to do that.

The UFCS Battle With New York
''I think extreme fighting is disgusting, it's horrible. I happen to be a boxing fan, have been all my life. And I know there are issues regarding boxing, and they are serious ones. But this is way beyond boxing. This is people brutalizing each other.'' - New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, 1997.
The battle for mixed martial arts in our nation's cultural capital has been going strong for more than a decade. Since Giuliani helped put an end to the contests at the height of the UFC's political battle with Senator John McCain, promoters have dreamed about a triumphant return, a trip to boxing's hallowed stomping grounds.

UFCvs The State of New York
It well known that New York has banned MMA. New York assemblyman called the sport "barbaric." does not fully understand the sport. When mixxed martial arts first got started it was very different then it is today.I my opinion in was a bit more exciting because you a kung fu fighter vs a wrestler or a street fighter vs a boxer. They did not have a waight class 2 martial arts experts goes in the cage to see who was the better fighter. In one video that I seen 1 5'7"150lbs man vs a 6'5 300bls man the fight lasted for a while but the smaller man won that match because he had better stamina. But this was the early days on MMA.
Now the sport is much more regulated. the fighters learn a multiple of martial ares a fighter will learn one form of martial arts such as mau tai or karate for striking and another like jutitsu or wrestling for the ground game. you now have wraight classes for the fighters and the refferee will stop the the fight to prevent ferther injury to the fighter.
I feel in my opinion that MMA should be allowed in the State of New York.It is no more or or less dangeruos then boxing. Her is the artical where I got my opinion from.
